Zebra Artwork

Graphic by nature, the zebra gives a wall what few animals can: rhythm, contrast and instant elegance. Our zebra wall art collection brings together artworks selected and retouched by hand in our Toulouse studio, from black and white portraits to the rainbow zebra, to give your home the character you have been imagining.

Zebra wall art: a pattern that shapes the wall

Some walls have been waiting a long time. You sense something is missing, without quite knowing what. Often, the answer lies in a few bold lines: those of the zebra. Its stripes sketch an architecture all on their own; they guide the eye, give rhythm to the space and bring that black and white contrast that goes with almost everything, along with a breath of the African savannah. A zebra painting gives a wall a line, a rhythm, a presence.

At MyselfMonArt, a creative studio founded in Toulouse in 2022, every artwork is selected and then retouched by hand by our art direction team: the depth of the blacks, the fine detail of the coat, the accuracy of the colours. Nothing enters the collection by chance, and it is this care you will find once the canvas is hanging in your home.

Which zebra wall art should you choose?

It all begins with the atmosphere you want to create. Our collection unfolds in four families.

Black and white zebra wall art, a timeless choice

This is the choice that outlasts trends and house moves alike. The wild gaze in black and white plays on a hypnotic close-up, right up to the eye and the stripes. The majestic zebra on a black background sculpts the light like a studio portrait, with its golden highlights. And the zebra in the winter snow tells the story of an unexpected encounter, ever so gently. In a room already full of colour, a black and white zebra canvas restores a sense of calm; in a neutral interior, it adds character without ever shouting. This dialogue between black and white has inspired the very greatest: Victor Vasarely notably made it the subject of his painting Zebras (1937), often cited among the very first works of op art.

The colourful zebra, pop energy

Colour changes the mood entirely. The rainbow zebra unfolds a rich, painterly texture, while the multicoloured galloping zebra brings movement into the room. The perfect way to give a neutral living room the splash of colour it was missing. To carry this spirit further, explore our pop art wall art.

African and ethnic inspiration

For a warm interior in earthy tones, the zebra with tribal patterns and copper ochres brings its coppery hues to the wall. The African mother and child with zebra patterns, meanwhile, turns the stripe into clothing, in a tender illustration about what we hand down from one generation to the next. Two works that sit naturally alongside our African wall art; to style a whole room in this spirit, our guide to African decor gives you the keys.

Street art and watercolour, the zebra that makes you smile

The crowned elephant with zebra stripes blends graffiti with humour, for a loft, a home office or a teenager's bedroom that embraces its urban side. You will find more works in this style among our street art canvases. As for the laughing watercolour zebra, its soft tones bring a tender, joyful note to a child's room.

Zebra wall art for every room

In the living room, above the sofa

This is the prime spot. Aim for one artwork, or a pair, covering between half and two thirds of the width of the sofa, hung 15–25 cm (6–10 in) above the back. As a guide: a 60 × 80 cm (23.6 × 31.5 in) for a two-seater sofa, a 75 × 100 cm (29.5 × 39.4 in) for a three-seater, a 90 × 120 cm (35.4 × 47.2 in) for a large wall. Torn between a single piece and an arrangement? Two canvases side by side, or a trio in a row, make a beautiful gallery wall. More ideas among our living room wall art.

In the bedroom

Above the headboard, a black and white zebra canvas creates a hushed elegance, perfect for unwinding. The zebra in the snow, with its soft light, is a particularly lovely companion at the end of the day. Discover our bedroom wall art too.

In the entryway, hallway or home office

In an entryway, a portrait-format piece greets the eye from the doorway: it is the opening line of your home. In a home office, the clean lines of a black and white zebra structure the space without distracting, and make a beautiful backdrop for your video calls. Discover our entryway and hallway wall art and our home office wall art.

In a child's room

Children recognise the zebra at first glance. The laughing watercolour zebra brings softness, a rainbow zebra brings cheer, and a more graphic version will grow up alongside your child. More ideas in our children's room wall art.

What goes with zebra wall art?

The zebra's black and white are the ultimate neutrals. They pair with pale wood, linen, rattan, jute or cognac leather, and feel at home in a Scandinavian, Japandi, boho or industrial interior. For a safari-chic look, team it with green plants, a natural-fibre rug and a few touches of terracotta. Soft palettes suit it beautifully too: on a beige, sand or greige wall, its stripes take on magnificent depth. In the evening, low-angled light or a directional spotlight brings out the grain of the canvas.

The zebra also enjoys company. Surround it with other animals of the savannah, such as the lion in all its majesty (discover our lion artwork), or with its cousin the horse, with our horse paintings. What the zebra symbolises

The zebra speaks of balance: black and white answer each other without ever fading away. It also speaks of individuality, since every zebra's stripes are unique, like a fingerprint. And as a herd animal, it evokes freedom lived together and our bonds with others.

In France, the zebra has also become the affectionate emblem of people with high intellectual potential (HPI), ever since the psychologist Jeanne Siaud-Facchin popularised the image: a singular being who blends into the background while standing out from it, and who will not be tamed. Giving a zebra painting to someone who recognises themselves in it is a tender, knowing wink.

Why does the zebra have stripes?

The question has intrigued naturalists since Darwin and Wallace. Several theories coexist: confusing predators' vision when the herd is on the move, helping to regulate heat and, according to the most recent studies, deterring biting flies. One thing is certain: this pattern, one of the most recognisable in the animal kingdom, is a gift to artists.

Sizes, finishes and frames

A painting is more than a printed image: it is a material you will look at every day for years. Here is what goes into ours.

FAQ

Your questions about zebra artwork

Which zebra wall art should I choose for my home?

Start from the atmosphere you are after. Black and white, like the wild gaze or the zebra in the snow, brings an understated elegance that fits in anywhere. A rainbow or multicoloured zebra livens up a neutral room. The tribal patterns in copper ochres warm up a boho or ethnic interior, and the laughing watercolour zebra softens a child's room. Then choose the size according to the wall you want to dress.

Black and white or colourful zebra wall art: which should I choose?

Black and white is the most timeless choice: it calms a room already rich in colour and suits every style, from Scandinavian to industrial. A colourful zebra, in a pop art spirit, becomes the burst of energy in a neutral interior or a child's room. A tip: echo one shade from the canvas in a cushion or a throw to create a real sense of harmony.

What size zebra canvas should I choose for above a sofa?

Aim for one artwork, or a pair, covering between half and two thirds of the width of the sofa, hung 15–25 cm (6–10 in) above the back. As a guide: a 60 × 80 cm (23.6 × 31.5 in) for a two-seater sofa, a 75 × 100 cm (29.5 × 39.4 in) for a three-seater and a 90 × 120 cm (35.4 × 47.2 in) for a large wall. You can also line up two or three canvases of the same size for a gallery effect.

What decor goes well with zebra wall art?

The zebra's black and white pairs beautifully with pale wood, linen, rattan, jute or cognac leather. It feels at home in a Scandinavian, Japandi, boho or industrial interior, and reveals all its depth on a beige, sand or greige wall. For a safari-chic look, add green plants, a natural-fibre rug and a few touches of terracotta.

What does the zebra symbolise in interior decor?

The zebra symbolises balance, as black and white answer each other without fading away, and individuality: every zebra's stripes are unique, like a fingerprint. As a herd animal, it also evokes freedom and our bonds with others. In France, it has also become the affectionate emblem of people with high intellectual potential (HPI): a lovely gift idea for anyone who recognises themselves in it.

Is zebra wall art suitable for a child's room?

Yes: with its stripes, the zebra is an animal little ones spot straight away. The laughing watercolour zebra, in soft tones, brings a tender, joyful touch to a nursery or a child's bedroom. For a room that grows with your child, a more graphic or multicoloured zebra works beautifully too. Find more ideas in our Children's Room Wall Art collection.

How good is the quality of your canvases?

Our paintings are printed on 285 g/m² polyester canvas with high-pigment inks, guaranteed for 75 years without fading. Each canvas is stretched by hand over a solid wood stretcher 3 cm (1.2 in) deep, with a choice of five edge finishes. They are designed in France, printed to order in Europe and delivered mounted on their stretcher. Delivery is free.

Is your zebra wall art also available as a poster?

Yes, several of our zebras also come as posters, including the wild gaze, the zebra in the snow, the rainbow zebra and the tribal patterns. A poster is a print on 250gsm photo paper, light and more affordable: choose “No frame” to frame it yourself, or “With frame” to receive it ready to hang.
